Ukiah Valley Fire District adopts 2025 California Fire Code and Wildland-Urban Interface Code

The Ukiah Valley Fire District Board of Directors unanimously approved an ordinance Oct. 14 adopting the 2025 edition of the California Fire Code (Part 9) and the 2025 California Wildland-Urban Interface Code (Part 7), with local amendments, to govern fire prevention, permitting and safeguards for life and property.

"What we have before you is the 2025 fire code ordinance that will take us through the next 3 years," Matt, the presenter, said, adding that "nothing has changed since our last meeting" and describing the adoption as routine. A board member asked one minor clarification about Section 103.1 and whether the fire code official title would correspond to the fire chief; staff confirmed that the chief is typically designated as the fire code official under the model code.

The board made and seconded the motion to adopt the ordinance and then voted by roll call; the clerk recorded affirmative votes from the directors present. The ordinance is the district—s mechanism for aligning local requirements with the statewide 2025 code cycle and will proceed to the county board of supervisors for ratification as required by interjurisdictional review.

No substantive changes to the proposal were reported at the Oct. 14 meeting. The board—s action replaces conflicting local provisions and establishes the district—s enforcement and permitting references to the 2025 code until the next code update cycle.

The board did not specify an ordinance number in the record at the meeting; procedural documents and the adopted ordinance text will be filed with the district clerk and forwarded for the county—s ratification process.
