Vallejo Police report new security towers, traffic unit rebuild and immigration‑policy assurances

Chief Todd said logistics are underway for a sheriff partnership slated to run January 2026 through January 2027 to augment local public‑safety services. "So January 2026 to January 2027, the sheriff deputies will be assisting us with additional public safety services," he said.
Sergeant Hollis briefed the committee on VPD's immigration stance, stressing that the department enforces state and local law but does not conduct federal immigration enforcement and prioritizes crime reporting and community trust. He said VPD maintains a bias‑free policing policy and referenced a 2017 policy update conducted with the city attorney at the time.
Committee members asked about youth outreach and resurrecting programs; Sergeant Hollis described an Explorer program with approximately four VCUSD students who have received CPR certification and noted upcoming school engagement events including a Cave Elementary open house and a planned Day of the Dead event.
No formal action was requested or taken on these updates; staff offered to follow up with additional outreach planning and coordination with the school district.
