Traffic and Parking Director Stephanie McArthur presented proposed handicap parking placements for multiple locations across the city and read a list of specific curb offsets under consideration. The committee approved an emergency preamble for the handicap parking ordinance and moved the proposal through the necessary readings.
The committee also considered a request to create a single one-hour parking space on Pleasant Street in front of Elizabeth’s (listed in the record as Elizabeth's Elektraulacy/spa). Councilors approved the one-hour space and passed the section to first reading by voice vote.
In addition, the committee approved a range of handicap parking removals at locations listed by street and offset (examples in committee minutes listed Bailey Street, Downing Street, Durfee Street, Dwelling Street, Fulton Street, Maple Street, Merchant Street, Pine Street and Rock Street with specific offsets). Those removals were moved through for first reading as well.
Staff clarified that the removals and additions will be enacted according to the ordinance language and will return for subsequent readings; enforcement and signage details will be implemented by Traffic and Parking.
