Director's report: pilot cultural grants, utility-wrap art and meeting calendar for Lacey equity commission

Assistant City Manager Shannon Kelly Fong delivered several administrative updates at the Oct. 27 meeting.
Fong said the City Council had approved moving forward with a pilot Community and Cultural Grant program for 2026 and that the proposed budget includes $25,000 for the program. "The council did pass that we would move forward with a pilot program in 2026," she said; staff plans to return grant-application materials to the commission for review before finalizing eligibility and criteria.
Fong also said the first utility-wrap artwork created by youth participants has been installed and staff will notify families and post information on city channels. She announced a planned meeting between City Council and the North Thurston Public Schools on Nov. 12 (topics include student safety, parks, construction updates and a senior-affordable housing property purchase). She asked commissioners to confirm availability for Nov. 24 and Dec. 22 meetings and noted reappointments and appointments will go to City Council tentatively on Dec. 16.
Action items: staff will share the grant-application materials with the commission (likely Dec. or Jan.), provide a map and links for the utility wraps, circulate the school-board meeting link and confirm quorum for the Nov. 24 and Dec. 22 meetings.
