Commission delays Lakewood Village hearing after residents ask to avoid Thanksgiving week

Staff told the Planning Commission on Oct. 27 that the applicant for the Lakewood Village redevelopment project requested the public hearing be continued to Nov. 24 to finalize details related to a proposed commercial building and project phasing.
Jeff Cucinota, senior planner, said staff recommended a continuance so the applicant and staff could finalize conditions of approval. Several commissioners expressed concern that Nov. 24 falls during Thanksgiving week and that many residents would be unavailable to participate.
Multiple residents from the project area spoke in person and remotely. "I wanted to respectfully request that the continued hearing for the Lakewood project not be scheduled for November 24 as that falls during Thanksgiving week," said remote participant Himanshu Sethi, urging the commission to pick a later date to maximize participation.
After discussion about renoticing implications, Commissioner Davis moved to continue the hearing to a date uncertain; Commissioner Pine seconded and the motion passed unanimously. Staff said it would renotice the neighborhood once a date is set and coordinate with the applicant on a date certain if feasible.
No final project decisions were made at the Oct. 27 meeting; the item will return for a noticed public hearing after staff and the applicant finalize outstanding conditions and schedule a hearing date.
