The Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission approved the final draft of the 2026 Parks and Recreation Strategic Plan at its Nov. 5 meeting.
Larry Pinkett, who led staff work on the plan, told the commission the document incorporated feedback from commissioners and city staff after months of review. "We started talking about it back in August...we've come to the culmination of it," Pinkett said, asking commissioners to approve the final draft.
Commissioner Frank Schambach moved to approve the plan, and Lamont Kleppler seconded. Roll call recorded five 'yes' votes — Judy Bory, Frank Schambach, Felicia Madrid, Lamont Kleppler and Heather Mueller — with Commissioners DL Kine and Manny Vega listed as excused. The motion carried.
Why it matters: staff told commissioners the strategic plan guides annual budget priorities and is used by auditors and program managers to align projects and spending. Pinkett said the plan pulls key strategies into the department's budget documents and will inform project sequencing and staffing decisions.
