Community High School District 128 on Nov. 3 administered the oath of office to Julie Simpson, the board’s most recent appointee to fill a vacant seat. Board members met in a short special session so Simpson could be seated and begin official duties.
The oath was read aloud by Simpson, who began, “I, Julie Simpson, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of the Board of Education of Community High School District 128…in accordance with the constitution of The United States, the constitution of the state of Illinois, and the laws of the state of Illinois.” The pledge included commitments to protect district assets, respect student privacy and work with the superintendent to advance the board’s vision.
District leadership said Simpson had been formally appointed at a prior special meeting and the Nov. 3 session’s sole purpose was to administer the oath and seat the new member. Following the swearing-in the special meeting was adjourned by voice vote and the board proceeded to its scheduled program and personnel and facilities and finance committee meetings.
Simpson’s swearing-in brings the board to seven members. There were no formal votes taken at the swearing-in aside from the customary voice approval to adjourn the special meeting.
