Angels Camp buys half of meters for automated meter-read program; installation bid set for Nov. 18

Staff reported the city purchased approximately half the automated meter readers required to retrofit the system and will return Nov. 18 with a request to buy the remaining units and solicit an install contractor.
City staff updated the council that the city has purchased about half of the automated meter readers needed to convert the system and will return at the Nov. 18 meeting to request purchase of the second half and to seek bids for installation.
Steve explained that automated meter readers will reduce staff time currently required for monthly manual reads (a five‑person public‑works crew) and reduce human error in meter readings. "One of the significant advantages to automated meter readers is...they take a tablet and the meter reader emits some type of signal to the tablet that automatically does what they now have to go on foot and pen and paper and do," Steve said.
City staff said Dave Richards will present a more detailed purchase and installation plan at the Nov. 18 meeting.
Next steps: staff will return Nov. 18 with a purchase authorization for the remaining meters and a request to advertise for an installation contractor.
