Somers High students give board a preview of 'Almost Maine'

Board President opened the evening by welcoming the Somers High School drama club and introducing Bobby Yapchanik, choral director and drama club advisor, who thanked the Board, the Somers Education Foundation and STARS for supporting the performing arts. "Your encouragement and investment in student creativity makes everything we do possible," Yapchanik said.
Technical director Dana Roach told the board this was her first year serving as technical director and described building stage sets, multiple rooms and scenic elements largely from available materials. Director Rachel Vetterman, a fourth‑grade teacher and first‑year high‑school director, said she chose Almost Maine because its vignette structure gives many students an opportunity to perform and to explore themes of love, loss and hope.
Student performers described two vignettes and acted the prologue for trustees to illustrate tone and staging. Trustees thanked the performers, congratulated the production team and noted the board president and several trustees said they planned to attend upcoming performances on Nov. 14–15.
What happens next: the board and community members were invited to attend the high‑school production on the announced weekend; trustees said they look forward to seeing the full production.
