Lexi, a recreation staff member, told the Apopka Development Review Committee on Nov. 5 that T Dogs Big Dreams Charity Incorporated will host an R&B/southern-soul picnic festival at the Apopka Amphitheater on Jan. 17, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. "There'll be about 2,000 people," Lexi said, and added that the event will include food trucks, vendors, stage production, and alcohol.
The applicant plans to use 10-by-10 vendor tents and to hire a private security company, Lexi said, though the security firm had not been identified to staff. Setup is scheduled to begin the day before, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m., and parking will be routed to Barbecue Row and adjacent complex lots with a contracted parking company assisting.
Representatives from police, public works and fire had no substantive objections during the meeting. No enforcement or permit conditions were recorded in the DRC transcript and staff did not list specific security or liquor-license conditions at the Nov. 5 discussion. Departments typically follow up with standard event permitting, traffic management and alcohol-permitting checks before issuing permits.
The DRC did not record a formal vote; the discussion concluded with no additional department comments and the item moved on to the next agenda matter.
The Recreation Department and applicant will need to confirm the private security provider and any alcohol-permitting documentation before the event's required permits can be finalized.
