The Winchester-Clark County Planning & Zoning Commission voted to forward a recommendation to the governing body to rezone a 2.05-acre parcel at 2800 Monroe Road from Agriculture (AG) to R-1A (single-family). The parcel, carved out around an existing family residence, conforms to the county’s future land use map and matches the zoning of adjacent properties to the west.
Planning staff explained the small parcel would align the property with nearby R-1A lots and that the remainder of the parent tract would remain in agriculture. The applicant’s representative said the family intends to keep the house on the newly drawn lot: "My mother's passed away recently. We are wanting to keep the house," the representative said.
Neighbors who spoke, including Wade Elderman, said they had no objection and only asked for clearer location information in public notices. Commissioner (speaker 5) moved to forward the rezoning recommendation to the governing body; the motion carried on a voice vote.
Next steps: The governing body will consider the rezoning recommendation and make the final decision in a future meeting.
