Council approves Swan Park naming-rights MOU that ties sponsorship revenue to facility upkeep
Summary
The council approved an MOU with local baseball and softball groups to formalize naming-rights sponsorships for Swan Park fields. Field naming rights cost $25,000 for a 15-year term, with dugout and batting-cage rights set for shorter terms; existing sponsors get first renewal rights and revenue will support maintenance and upgrades.

The Waupaca Common Council on Nov. 4 approved a memorandum of understanding to formalize naming-rights sponsorships at Swan Park.
Laura Colbert, director of parks and recreation, described the MOU as a collaborative agreement among the city, Waupaca Baseball Organization and the Waupaca Area Youth Softball Organization that sets consistent terms for field, dugout and batting-cage naming rights. “Field naming rights, they paid $25,000, and they have that for 15 years,” Colbert said, adding that dugout rights are for 10 years and batting-cage rights for five years, each with a different fee schedule.
Colbert said existing sponsors will have first right of renewal, and revenue generated from naming rights will be used collaboratively for facility maintenance and upgrades at Swan Park. She confirmed the sponsors have already paid and their signs are currently displayed, and that future renewals would require upfront payment unless the council approved a payment plan.
Councilmember Corey Nagel disclosed his role on the baseball board and abstained from the vote. Motion by Dave Peterson, second by Colin Dykstra to approve the Swan Park naming-rights MOU carried 6–0 with one abstention. The MOU takes effect in January 2026 for the field naming-rights term; staff will arrange signatures from the city and partner organizations.
