At its Oct. 21 meeting the Terrebonne Parish School Board accepted several committee recommendations covering facilities, insurance and procurement.
Buildings/Food Service/Transportation committee recommended renewing third‑party air quality monitoring with Intertek PSI for one year and renewing environmental consulting services with Ritter Consulting Engineers. The committee also authorized a notice to proceed for demolition planning at the former Lacash Middle School with a project budget of $305,377, of which the committee reported $274,839 would come from FEMA reimbursement funds.
The Finance, Insurance and Section 16 Lands Committee recommended benefit and vendor actions: renewal of a group health stop‑loss reinsurance with HCC (specific deductible $450,000) at an estimated annual cost of $775,825.20 effective Jan. 1, 2026; acceptance of a UnitedHealthcare group Medicare Advantage plan for eligible retirees estimated at $3,299,866.56 for the 2026 plan year; emeritus group dental renewal with rate/benefit changes (rates guaranteed for three years); and an Ameritas VSP vision plan renewal with a three‑year rate guarantee and no increase beginning Jan. 1, 2026. Committee recommendations to authorize purchasing to advertise for bids for medical and athletic training supplies were also approved.
Motions were moved by committee chairs and, where no objections were raised, ordered passed. Board members asked clarifying questions about cost drivers—particularly for benefits that affect employees—and were told benefit cost increases are currently borne by employees and that open enrollment will show updated rates.
