The City of Akron Budget & Finance Committee on Wednesday approved a substitute ordinance implementing the monetary items of a recently negotiated contract with the Fraternal Order of Police, Akron Lodge No. 7, and moved the ordinance forward under suspension of the rules.
Clerk Sarah Viviano read a substitute amendment that, according to Mr. Fricker, removes all language that would have applied to non‑bargaining and unclassified employees so the ordinance now addresses only the bargaining unit’s health‑care adjustments. "This ordinance is merely approving all of the monetary items associated with the FOP contract that was recently approved by both the administration and by the FOP," Fricker said.
Committee members noted they had discussed the item the previous week. A motion to suspend the rules and approve the substitute ordinance was made and seconded; the committee approved the measure by voice vote and the chair announced passage.
The substitute ordinance will be processed according to council rules for emergency and contract‑related legislation.
