At the annual license-cap stage of the meeting, staff said the town ordinance requires the council to set caps and specific locations for mobile food vendors and hawkers & peddlers. The council voted to set the cap for mobile food event (MFE) permits at six and to set the hawkers & peddlers cap at one.
Council reviewed the list of current applicants and operators, which staff said includes Andiamo, Block Island Gourmet, Payne’s Killer Donuts, Southeast Lights Delights, Champlain’s and The Pizza Shack. Staff said The Pizza Shack had not opened this year but hopes to be ready next summer.
The council approved a lease renewing Block Island Gourmet LLC’s use of Mosquito Beach town property and added clearer language requiring that "not just the truck, but any associated materials, chairs, trash cans, all those things need to be cleared out at the end of the day." Council voted to deny an additional requested servicing location and then approved a set list of locations (Plat and lot identifiers presented by staff) for mobile-food operation by voice vote.
Votes recorded by voice included the motions to set the MFE cap at six and to approve the Block Island Gourmet lease; the council then set the hawkers and peddlers license cap at one and approved the list of locations for the coming season.
