Lincoln — Officer Paul Becker was sworn in as a corporal during the city council meeting on Nov. 3 after council added the oath of office as a last-minute agenda item.

Presiding officer (S1) invited Officer Becker to step forward. Becker repeated the oath administered by a city official: "I have been appointed to the office of corporal to the city of Lincoln, county of Logan. I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and I'll faithfully discharge the duties of the office of corporal to the best of my ability." The presiding officer offered congratulations following the oath.

No formal council vote was required or recorded for the oath; it was entered as an agenda item and administered on the record.
