Marathon County Historical Society asks county for $20,000 to mark America’s 250th

Raun said the proposal includes a roving-historian video series, school presentations, a traveling exhibit and community events and would be matched by private sponsorships and grants. “The funding we're requesting will help us launch a balanced and accessible celebration,” Raun said, adding the society can adjust the project scope if full funding is not available.
HR/Finance reviewed the request and moved it to the full board as a proposed budget amendment to be funded from the 2025 contingency line; the item will be considered alongside other amendments at the Nov. 11 meeting.
The society’s request is framed as a community-engagement and tourism investment; Raun said it aims to rotate exhibits through towns, libraries and municipal centers and to involve local artists and vendors.
What’s next: HR/Finance forwarded the contingency-funding amendment; the full board will consider adoption on Nov. 11, 2025.
