Finance committee approves package of school and county grant amendments

The Bradley County Finance Committee unanimously approved a package of budget amendments during its Nov. 1 meeting, recognizing several incoming grants and reallocations across county departments.
The committee accepted a $203,158.42 grant for Bradley County Schools (page 3), a $65,000 grant from the Public Education Foundation for STEM labs (page 5) and a $789,102.63 Innovative Schools model grant (page 7). Chair and staff representatives said the grants are revenue recognitions and will be moved into expense lines accordingly. "Do I have a motion to accept the amendment as presented?" the chair asked; motions were made and each item passed 5–0.
Finance items approved included an $8,682.50 adjustment tied to a road striping vendor change, a $12,000 internal transfer for a metal roof at the recycling center and an internal reduction/reclassification for the medical examiner's vehicle/equipment expenses. The committee also accepted a $9,000 donation to Parks & Recreation from the Tennessee Valley Authority with supporting documentation on file.
The committee approved two public-safety grants: a $17,000 award into the sheriff's office deputies line and a $69,000 cybersecurity grant for the sheriff's office. Members also accepted a state School Resource Officer grant, listed in committee materials at $1,275,000, with itemization to cover salaries, equipment and uniforms.
Committee members repeatedly moved and seconded the individual amendments and voted to approve them by unanimous tallies. Staff said supporting documentation and line-item details are attached to the packet entries and will be included in the official full-commission agenda being prepared for tonight's meeting.
The committee chair said staff will present a fuller ARP report at the December finance meeting to give more context on how incoming federal funds and interest have affected county balances.
