The Finance Committee closed its amendment session by adopting the amended property tax levy and forwarding the recommended 2026 budget, as amended, to the County Board.
Director Katie reported a property tax levy of $309,014,834, a 3.48% increase over the 2025 adopted levy and approximately $2,992 below the levy limit. The director noted that, on a countywide equalized value basis, the estimated tax rate would drop by roughly one penny per $1,000 of assessed value.
Committee votes: The committee voted unanimously (6–0) to recommend adoption of the amended property tax levy and, on a subsequent roll call, recommended adoption of the 2026 recommended budget as amended (6–0).
Why it matters: The levy and committee recommendations set the county’s fiscal framework and will be part of the full County Board’s consideration. Staff noted the county remains close to its levy limit and urged careful stewardship of spending and debt decisions.
What’s next: The recommended budget and the committee’s amendment package will be considered by the full County Board on board day.
