Tara Easton Forgette, director of the Blue Mountain Coalition for Youth and Families, presented the nonprofit’s work on Oct. 28, describing 30 years of local programming in West Point and the organization’s role delivering services to an isolated, upcountry community.
Forgette said the Blue Mountain Center operates five days a week and runs a free after‑school youth club, teen leadership programs, a community garden, a farmers market used to connect residents with services and a First 5 playgroup. She highlighted partnerships with the Resource Connection and county public health that allow mobile services—bookmobile visits, monthly Mac mobile clinics and community meals—so families need not travel long distances for basic services.
Board members praised the coalition’s work and invited supervisors to visit West Point. A longtime board member of the coalition noted the organization had met its five‑year plan goals and increased service delivery to more children.
The presentation underscored rural service delivery challenges—transportation, long drive times and limited local infrastructure—and demonstrated local nonprofit capacity to connect residents to county services.
