Proponents told council the name was chosen to honor first responders and veterans broadly across Mills and Wyoming. "It reflects the intent of the park, which is to honor first responders as well as veterans," a council member said during discussion.
Council members asked whether additional naming options had been considered and requested greater council involvement in the naming and identity decisions. Staff noted that some fundraising and organizational paperwork (501(c)(3) registration) has already been completed under the proposed name and that social media and branding could be changed later if the council chooses.
The council approved the first reading by voice vote. Because this is an ordinance, it requires three readings for final adoption; council members said they could schedule further discussion or a work session if the council wished to take more time on name options.
