The River Falls City Council on Oct. 28 approved a resolution authorizing special-assessment police powers for the River Falls Business Improvement District (BID) after a short public hearing.
Jolene Lisonbee, the BID director, presented the district's history and activities, noting the BID has operated since 1989 and funds events, beautification (hanging baskets, Second Street Gardens), downtown promotions such as River Dazzle and facade/sign grants. Lisonbee said the BID has contributed nearly $1 million in grants and investments to the business district and highlighted recent work on accessibility programs and partnerships with city staff.
Following the presentation and brief public comment, Council moved, seconded and approved the resolution to authorize special assessment police powers for the BID. Council members asked staff questions before the vote and thanked Lisonbee for her presentation.
