Saline County commissioners approve consent agenda, two fire grants and KCAMP withdrawal notice

At its Oct. 28 meeting the Saline County Board of County Commissioners approved the consent agenda, accepted forestry grants for Rural Fire Districts No. 1 and No. 3, adopted a resolution to withdraw from KCAMP and proclaimed Nov. 4–11 as Operation Green Light for veterans.
The Saline County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 28 approved several routine and action items, including the consent agenda, two rural fire forestry grants, a proclamation honoring veterans and a resolution to notify KCAMP of the county's intent to withdraw.
The board approved the consent agenda, which included tax rule adjustments, accounts payable, the public forum agenda, a Burma Road asphalt-overlay change order and a 2025 KDOT letter of support for Presbyterian Manor. Speaker 5 moved to approve the consent agenda and Speaker 6 seconded; the motion carried with all commissioners voting aye.
The board accepted a forestry grant for Rural Fire District No. 1. Assistant Chief Wade Waddle described equipment purchases planned for a UTV, including a Stokes basket, burn kit and an AED, and said memorial and donation funds will cover local match amounts. Speaker 6 moved to approve the grant acceptance (referred to in the packet as RFA 20 25 dash 1 55); Speaker 5 seconded and the motion carried.
Michelle Weiss, emergency management director, reported that Rural Fire District No. 3 was awarded $4,900 but will purchase equipment for $4,875. The project requires a 50% local match to be paid from the district's special equipment fund, which Weiss said has a balance of just under $73,000. Speaker 3 moved to approve the district's grant acceptance (RFA 20 25 dash 1 57); Speaker 6 seconded and the motion carried.
The board adopted a resolution and notice of intent to withdraw from KCAMP, the county's insurance pool. County Administrator Philip Smith Haines told commissioners the notice must be transmitted by Nov. 1 and, if adopted, new coverage would need to be in place by Jan. 1. Speaker 6 moved to adopt Resolution 25-24-38; the motion passed.
Commissioners also approved a proclamation presented by Melissa McCoy designating Nov. 4–11 as Operation Green Light for Veterans, encouraging residents and businesses to display green lights in windows to honor veterans. Speaker 3 moved to proclaim November as Operation Greenlight Month; the motion passed.
All motions reported at the meeting were approved by voice vote with no recorded roll-call dissents noted in the minutes.
