The City of Denison Historic Preservation Board on Sept. 16 approved a certificate of appropriateness allowing the new owners of a residence at 610 West Chestnut to repaint the primary house and construct an alley-access garage.
A staff member told the board the owners prefer Sherwin‑Williams 'Tempe Star' for the house body, 'Snow Belt' for trim and 'Studio Beige' for the porch inset; the staff report lists Tempe Star as the selected color. The application also proposes a garage accessed from a paved alley at the rear of the property.
Board members and staff discussed limited space in the alley, required setbacks and that the final garage orientation could change after the building‑permit review. When asked whether the garage included living space, a staff member said the exterior door shown is for storage and that the proposal is "strictly a garage," not an accessory dwelling unit.
Speaker 2 moved to approve the certificate of appropriateness for repainting the primary structure and constructing the garage; Speaker 3 seconded and the motion passed by voice vote. Construction is subject to the standard building‑permit process, including review of setbacks and other code requirements.
The board did not set a construction start date; staff said the applicants were closing on the property the day of the meeting and must pursue required permits before work begins.
