District STEM coordinator outlines CTE reapprovals, proposes digital multimedia pathway

Mrs. Erwin, the district’s STEM coordinator, presented the Board with an update on Career and Technical Education (CTE) at the high school and detailed a proposed new digital multimedia pathway the district plans to submit to the state at the end of the month.
Erwin said the district currently has three approved pathways — business management & marketing, pre‑engineering and building science — and that reapproval for all three was awarded in June with approvals extending through 2030. She described state requirements for an approved CTE program, including a minimum of 3.5 credits, a technical assessment, and at least 54 hours of work‑based learning.
On the proposed digital multimedia pathway, Erwin said the district will leverage its TV studio, embed career and financial management, use Adobe Premiere as the technical assessment, and offer SUNY Adirondack credit for two of four courses in the sequence. Industry reviewers suggested adding technical writing and media literacy to the district’s employability profile; staff incorporated that feedback into course plans. Erwin also described outreach to families about CTE options and noted the district’s first graduates from the building science program.
Next steps: the application materials will be presented for signature by the superintendent and board president and submitted to the state by the end of the month.
