Scituate police department honored with state accreditation; council praises staff effort

“It's an honor to get this,” the police chief said, crediting a year to year-and-a-half of intensive policy reviews and updates led by the department’s deputy chief and supported across dispatch, patrol and civilian staff. Council members praised the effort and thanked sworn and non‑sworn personnel for their work.
Council discussion noted potential cost benefits from accreditation, including reduced insurance deductibles. “That’s a big number,” one councilor said while referencing a cited reduction in insurance costs. Members encouraged other public-safety departments to explore similar processes to save taxpayer money.
The council also noted the department will be up for reaccreditation in three years and encouraged ongoing maintenance of the standards that earned the award.
