School board weighs turf replacement, facility assessment and completed capital projects

The McKeesport Area School District building committee briefed the board on facilities work at the Oct. 9 meeting, including two RFPs scheduled for action and updates on recently completed projects.
Committee members said one RFP seeks to replace synthetic turf that the district deems beyond its useful life; the turf is described in the meeting record as more than 12 years old and the replacement was framed as a planned capital-improvement expense. The committee also reviewed a proposed facility-assessment study for the high school that staff said is designed to identify current building issues and present four options for moving forward with repairs or renovation.
District staff reported recently finished projects: the high school auditorium lighting project, a districtwide HVAC controls upgrade, and asphalt repairs around the salt shed and the Connersgan weight facility. Committee members said minor maintenance items identified in building walkthroughs are being scheduled with maintenance staff.
The two RFPs and the facility-assessment study appeared on the meeting agenda for formal consideration; committee members recommended moving forward with procurement steps consistent with the district’s capital-improvement plan.
