Prospect Forestation Board finalizes ArborFest plans, canopy-flag inspections set for November

The Prospect Forestation Board finalized logistics for its annual ArborFest and advanced plans for a fall canopy planting review during a virtual meeting.
Board members said Jack Baggett of the Kentucky Department of Forestry and Matt Sullivan of Save A Tree will join the ArborFest event, giving participants access to technical advice. Mayer said the recent bridge dedication in Heritage Creek Park drew a crowd and noted the art exhibit in City Hall will run through Dec. 7. “We had a good crowd, I’d say, between 30 and 40 people,” Mayer said of the bridge dedication ceremony.
Organizers confirmed tree guards and informational handouts will be available at the celebration. Ron said he will ensure tree guards are ordered and available; volunteers will handle setup and hospitality. Members discussed practical details including a sign to advertise the event, a coffee order from Starbucks, and donuts for attendees.
Separately, the board set a timetable for the fall canopy program. Members said participants should place identification flags by Nov. 1 so Andrea and the planning team can visit the week of Nov. 3 to record GPS locations and verify planting sites. Planting or digging could begin around the middle of the month depending on contractor schedules and weather.
The board encouraged volunteers to provide short copy for the next newsletter about protecting small trees from deer, and to circulate a list of trees to be distributed at ArborFest so residents know species availability. The next board meeting was set for Nov. 13 via Webex.
The meeting adjourned after members moved and seconded to end the session.
