City tree board finalizes ArborFest logistics, canopy-planting checks

The city’s Forestation/Tree Board finalized logistics for its annual ArborFest and the fall canopy-planting program during a virtual meeting. Board members agreed that trees to be planted as part of the canopy program should be flagged by Nov. 1 so Andrea and the planning team can verify sites and capture GPS coordinates for planting evaluations.
Speakers at the meeting said tree deliveries are scheduled for the Friday before ArborFest and that setup will begin the morning of the event. Speaker 4 (Andrea) confirmed delivery timing and said the team will place a second flag and call in the utility bug markings when they visit each site. Speaker 3 (chair) circulated a spreadsheet of canopy participants and will send a reminder to participants about placing flags.
Board members assigned volunteer tasks for ArborFest: Speaker 6 offered to pick up donuts and Speaker 2 volunteered to arrange coffee from Starbucks. Member Speaker 8 said Ron will repair and prepare the event signage so it can be posted the Sunday before the event. The board also discussed printed handouts on tree care, including a sheet on protecting trees from deer.
ArborFest speakers noted that guest experts Jack Baggett of the Kentucky Department of Forestry and Matt Sullivan of Save A Tree are expected to attend. The meeting concluded with confirmation that the board will have volunteers on site to arrange trees by species, manage sign-in logs and distribute informational material.
The board scheduled a follow-up field check the week after Nov. 1 to confirm flag placement and GPS locations and to coordinate planting timing with contractors. The board’s next meeting was set for Nov. 13.
