The Newman-Crows Landing Unified School District Board unanimously approved three key items during its Sept. 8 regular meeting: a tentative agreement with the district’s teachers association for the 2024–25 school year, Resolution 25-26/3 certifying the sufficiency of instructional materials, and a one-time payment in lieu of a salary-schedule increase for nonrepresented employees for 2024–25.
The board opened and closed a public hearing on textbook sufficiency with no public comment before taking the resolution to a vote. The resolution (25-26/3) — required by state rules governing instructional materials — was approved following a motion and second and carried by a unanimous roll-call vote.
Board members then moved to approve a tentative agreement between the district and NCLTA (the local teachers association) for the 2024–25 school year. The board also approved a one-time payment for nonrepresented employee groups for the same year. Each item was moved, seconded and approved on voice/roll-call votes recorded as unanimous.
Superintendent Pruitt reported on district operations and recent campus visits during the meeting. On the Williams Act curriculum review, Pruitt said the district “passed” the curriculum phase and expected the facilities portion of the review later in the week.
Next steps: The mascot proposal for the Beyond the Bell program was presented as information and will return for a vote at a future meeting; the approved labor agreement and compensation action take effect according to the terms and timelines specified in those agreements and district personnel practice.
