The Fauquier County Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance Oct. 19 amending Chapter 8, Article 11 (Tax and Real Estate) to establish a biannual property reassessment cycle, with the next reassessment scheduled to go live on Jan. 1, 2026.
Planning and assessment staff said the change codifies the reassessment timing the county intends to use going forward. In discussion, a supervisor asked whether the county could move to annual reassessments in the future; staff said that while an annual cycle might be desirable for certain technical reasons, changing to annual reassessments would likely not be possible until the first biannual cycle completed (projected 2028) and would require board action at that time.
The board adopted the ordinance by voice vote; no public speakers addressed the item during the public hearing.
The ordinance amends the county code to set the reassessment cadence and sets administrative procedures for implementing the 2026 reassessment.
