Lewiston High student commended by National Merit program; recounts Vanderbilt research experience

Principal John Radke presented Lewiston High student Hamdi Mohammed with a letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program during the committee’s Oct. 6 meeting.
Radke said the letter recognizes Hamdi’s high selection index score from the qualifying test. "All of us associated with Lewiston High School join you in congratulating you," Radke said during the presentation, and the committee held a brief photo opportunity.
Hamdi described his summer research at Vanderbilt, saying, "Vanderbilt was a great experience. It taught me a lot about research," and summarized work on structural biology related to bladder cancer, looking at how mutations affect protein structure.
Committee members and the superintendent congratulated the student on the commendation and the district celebrated his academic achievement.
