CARSON CITY — CAMPO staff and the Nevada Department of Transportation updated the board on regional planning and near‑term construction and maintenance work, including outreach on a draft Regional Transportation Plan and several DOT operations and funding items.
Chris Martinovich, CAMPO transportation manager, said the RTP effort held a public meeting in late September with roughly 20 attendees and that staff are incorporating comments into project prioritization. "We are planning to hold future public meetings related to the RTP in November," Martinovich said, with one meeting to be held in Carson City and additional sessions planned in Lyon and Douglas counties to engage partner agencies and residents.
Rebecca, representing NDOT, reported on several operational items. She gave a heads‑up about lane reductions on I‑580 in North Carson around Lake Hill in October: lanes will be reduced in both directions between North Carson Street and Exit 10 from about 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily while crews replace a concrete median barrier damaged in a crash; speeds in the work zone will be reduced to 55 mph. She also confirmed that the US‑50 Tahoe repaving project has wrapped up for the season and is expected to pause around Oct. 15, with work resuming next May.
On statewide electric vehicle infrastructure, Rebecca said the Federal Highway Administration approved Nevada’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure deployment plan and "clears the way for us to have 38,000,000 in federal funds to expand fast charging" with a priority on interstates (I‑15, I‑80) and rural areas that currently lack charging options.
She also reported a brief closure of State Route 28 near Incline for moving multiple oversized loads, noting the closure lasted roughly 30 minutes to an hour and was coordinated with Nevada Highway Patrol for safety.
Board members did not raise objections and thanked staff; NDOT will present additional details at its upcoming board meeting and staff will bring the US‑50 East Carson Complete Streets final plan to CAMPO next month.
