Somerville committee backs 1,001-gallon backup fuel storage for Clarendon Hill project

The City of Somerville Licenses and Permits Committee recommended approval of a new flammables storage license for POAH Clarendon LLC, clearing the way for the item to be considered by the full City Council.
At the committee’s October meeting Chair Willie Burnley Jr. opened the public hearing on the application for 20 Stephenson Aman Street, which seeks authorization to store 1,001 gallons of fuel for generator backup. Jamie Carroll, senior development associate at POAH, said the stored fuel would be used only for emergency generator operation. "This application is for the flammables license for backup fuel for the generator," Carroll said.
Committee members asked whether any other flammable materials were stored on the site; an applicant representative said there were none. The chair confirmed that the storage authorization was strictly limited to generator use and reminded the applicant that no operations should begin until the license is issued and in hand.
A roll-call vote recommended the item for approval, with Councilor Klingen and Chair Burnley voting in favor and one member absent. The committee record shows the motion passed 2–0; the chair repeated that final authority rests with the full City Council, which is expected to consider the license at its next meeting.
If complaints or safety concerns arise after issuance, Burnley noted the committee could revisit its decision. No public speakers opposed the application during the hearing.
