Organizers told the Downtown West Bend BID board on Oct. 7 that the West Bend Christmas tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 6, with activities beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the lighting at about 6:30 p.m.
"The West Bend Christmas tree lighting ceremony will is scheduled for November 6 already. That's just around the corner, with a 05:30 start time, and then tree lighting at 06:30," said Kelly, the BID event lead. The Bend Theatre booked performers — identified as the actors who played the "bullies" in the holiday film A Christmas Story — and will present a ticketed event to help offset the cost of talent.
Kelly said musical acts are being confirmed, Santa is being booked and communications about the event will be released in the coming weeks. John, the BID staff liaison, explained staff reserved two contingency days (the 3rd and 4th) to test lighting and equipment in case of weather or electrical issues prior to the event so the display will be ready on the primary date.
The Downtown Association will serve hot chocolate and hot cider; the Bend Theatre will offer items for sale. Organizers also discussed a community meet-and-greet with the visiting performers after the movie.
Next steps: final performance lineup, concessions logistics and communications will be confirmed and publicized in the weeks before Nov. 6. Staff is coordinating schedules with the BID president Peggy and with the Bend Theatre.
