Federal Way proclaims October Domestic Violence Awareness Month; DAWN urges sustained support

The Federal Way City Council on Oct. 7 proclaimed October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Council Member Honda presented the proclamation and invited a DAWN (Dawn Rising) representative to speak. Ada Onyali, appearing on behalf of DAWN and its executive director Gina Finley (absent), thanked the council for the proclamation and highlighted services. "We answer over 400 calls each month, and we want to continue to be there for survivors," Onyali said, adding that DAWN has served 142 Federal Way residents so far this year.
Onyali urged consistent investment of funding, time and compassion to ensure shelter and services remain available year-round and promoted upcoming events and resources on DAWN's website. The council and mayor thanked DAWN for its service and encouraged residents to engage with local supports and events during the awareness month.
