Ukiah City DEI Committee cancels Nov. 26 meeting, schedules Nov. 12 special meeting and forms ad hoc for 2026 resource fair

The Ukiah City DEI Committee on Sept. 24 voted to cancel its regular Nov. 26, 2025 meeting and to hold a special meeting on Nov. 12, 2025. Committee members agreed cancelling the regular meeting was appropriate because Nov. 26 falls during Thanksgiving week; the cancellation motion carried by roll call. The subsequent motion to hold a special meeting on Nov. 12 carried with recorded voting of five yes and one abstention.

The committee also discussed a proposal from Senior Recreation Coordinator Mary Ann Aranda to host a community resource fair that could include emergency-preparedness agencies, health and social-service providers, and community organizations. Members discussed scope (general resources versus a seniors-only focus) and proposed using conference center space with multiple rooms for presentations and tables.

Members approved creating a temporary ad hoc committee to plan the resource fair and to coordinate logistics. The ad hoc was formed with members David Lieberman, Denise Courtney (transcript includes alternate spellings 'Gorney' in some places) and Heather Chris. Staff described the ad hoc as temporary and Brown Act–compliant (must identify start/end dates and cannot include a majority of the full committee). The committee asked the ad hoc to report back at the Nov. 12 special meeting and to identify any additional ad hoc or support needs at that time.
