Arts Council awards implementation grant for Mariposa Creek Parkway artist residency

Cara, a committee member, told the Mariposa County Public Art Committee that the Arts Council has awarded an implementation grant for the Artist-in-Residency program focused on Mariposa Creek Parkway. "I just was notified on Thursday that the we got the implementation grant, so that's very exciting," Cara said. She added the grant follows a planning grant awarded last year and that the formal activity period will start later.
The committee heard that the funder will issue a press release before the award is made broadly public; Cara said the press release had not yet gone out and that the committee was the first to learn of the award. Committee members discussed that many program details were already scoped under the earlier planning grant and that staff will have time to prepare implementation steps.
The residency will include three tracks described by the presenter: a visiting-artist single residency track, a multi-artist visiting track, a local-artist residency track, and a cultural residency component being developed with the Southern Sierra Miwok. Cara said more details will follow as the implementation schedule and press release are finalized.
Committee members welcomed the announcement and asked for updates at future meetings as staff and partners finalize the schedule and public communications. The committee did not take a formal vote on program design or budget during this meeting; next steps reported were internal planning and a forthcoming public announcement from the funder.
