Buckeye council unanimously approves annexation of 2.52 acres at Baseline Road

The Buckeye City Council on a unanimous vote adopted Ordinance 25-25 to annex roughly 2.52 acres at the northwest corner of East Baseline Road and E. Mc85 into the city and apply like C-3 (regional commercial) zoning.

City planner Adam Copeland told the council the property is currently zoned C-3 in Maricopa County and is surrounded on most sides by Buckeye. Copeland said the site is within Buckeye’s downtown specific area plan and described the adjacent county parcel to the east as a tavern. He said the petition was recorded July 29 and the property owner signed the petition on Aug. 29. Copeland said all required advertising and sign postings were completed “per Arizona Revised Statutes and the Buckeye Development Code” and that there were no outstanding issues from reviewing departments. “With that, staff does recommend this annexation for approval,” he said.

The council opened a public hearing on the annexation and, finding no speaker request cards or members of the public wishing to speak, closed the hearing. A council member moved to approve the ordinance; another council member seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

The ordinance increases the city’s incorporated limits to include the parcel and applies the city’s like C-3 zoning designation. No conditions, amendments or dissent were recorded in the meeting minutes. The council did not identify any outstanding departmental concerns that would delay implementation.

Next steps: the ordinance adoption was the final council action recorded at this meeting; staff indicated the annexation file has completed required recording and notice steps.
