Why it matters: board members said the Summarizer could save hours of research and help the board keep long‑running items (signage, development plans) visible between meetings. Members also raised legal and transparency questions: City Attorney Alley and others reminded the board that Sunshine Law rules still apply and warned that anything typed into a public‑facing forum may be a public record.
Board questions focused on two technical and legal points: whether the tool “scrapes” the open web in real time and whether uploaded material becomes training data for the underlying model. Dwayne said he had disabled the option that would permit the board’s uploaded files to be used as LLM training material and that the tool can be directed to consult public websites when asked. “I’ve opted out of that for all of our information,” he said.
Several members expressed cautious optimism. Vice Chair Ford said the board must remain strategic while still understanding infrastructure and workforce constraints that affect economic development. Presenter Dwayne and Economic Development Director Steve Weathers suggested the Summarizer could be used to create timelines and synthesize prior recommendations so the board prioritizes specific, actionable initiatives.
What’s next: the presenter offered to run queries requested by members and to circulate links and printed instructions; members were asked to try the interface and, if needed, submit queries to the presenter via the clerk for follow‑up at the next meeting.
The board’s discussion of the Summarizer was part of a broader conversation about priorities; the meeting later moved to a separate motion on lead generation for the economic development office.
