Board asks staff for department line‑item budget totals ahead of Sept. 11 hearing

Putnam County School Board members asked district finance staff on Aug. 19 to provide department totals and a limited level of line-item detail to support board review before the Sept. 11 budget hearing.
Jonathan (district staff, speaker 11) described two options: provide department totals only or deliver department totals plus object-line totals (for example, totals for travel or other purchase services) without every sub-line. "We can do the line item, to the object line… So that's the line item detail I'm referencing," Jonathan said, explaining the district could produce projected line-item reports but that departments would need to supply the projections.
Jonathan also advised the board that projections will be imperfect until final entries are posted. He told members auditors had notified the district about a required rebalancing: the district expects to charge back $87,000 to the general fund from last year and will need to adjust department projections to accommodate that change.
Board members agreed the initial report should show department totals and the top-level object-line totals (not every sub‑line). Staff said they would send a request to departments and aim to provide the projections in the days before the Sept. 11 hearing.
Next steps: finance will ask departments for projected object-line totals by the end of the month and deliver a projected, top-level line-item report ahead of the scheduled budget hearing for members to review.
