Council members told the committee that the county will officially open the Fern Street building for county offices on the afternoon of the 16th; not all staff will be moved immediately, but the county expects ECAP and the public health clinic to occupy lower‑floor clinic and exam space by the end of the month.
At the same time, the council announced a new Department of Community Development (DCD) director: "His name is Sebb Jones," the council member said, adding that Jones is coming from Eastern Washington (Walla Walla area) and has a planning background. The council said Jones’s first day is the 10th and staff plan to organize in‑person meet-and-greet events on the islands during his first weeks on the job.
Staff framed the opening and introductions as operational updates; no formal action or vote was recorded. The committee also received a brief recruitment update: EPRC applications remain open and are available online and through committee members.
