Platte County Commission sets five 2025 levies; road levy trimmed to meet Hancock Amendment

Temporary Presiding Commissioner Joe Vanemer opened the session after the county clerk named him to serve in the absence of Presiding Commissioner Scott Fricker. Staff reported that public notices for the levies ran on Sept. 3, 2025. On the general fund item, staff said, “The prior tax year rate was 0.01, and the proposed rate this year will be 0.01 as well.” The commission set the Platte County General Fund levy at 0.01 by motion and a 2-0 vote.
The commission next approved the Drainage District levy, holding that rate at 0.0709 after a staff presentation and public notice. For the Road and Bridge levy, staff noted the prior rate of 0.331 and recommended lowering it to 0.3277. A county official said the reduction was to “accommodate the requirements of the Hancock amendment.” The commission adopted the 0.3277 rate by motion; the vote was 2-0.
Commissioners also approved a lower senior fund levy, setting the senior services rate at 0.0432 after the senior fund board met and voted to request the decrease. The Platte County Board of Services (developmental disabilities) levy was reduced from 0.1175 to 0.11 after board action; commissioners approved that rate as well.
