Jackson County legislators debate land-use perfection amid planning commission vacancies

A contested portion of the meeting focused on land‑use ordinances and the status of the county’s planning commission. Multiple ordinances involving rezonings and conditional use permits were scheduled for perfection; the land-use committee recommended perfection for several items and moved them toward the consent agenda.

Legislator Sean Smith (Land Use concerns) and Legislator Marshall objected to perfecting land-use items while a number of planning commission appointments were expired or vacant, arguing the commission lacked a fully valid quorum representing unincorporated Jackson County. Smith said the administration has not reappointed members and that vacancies leave the commission underrepresented.

Legislators asked the administration to provide documentation of planning-commission membership, minutes and appointment status before the next meeting.
