Trustees push for clearer e‑scooter outreach and refer traffic complaints to plan commission and police

Several trustees on Aug. 11 urged the village to step up outreach about rules and enforcement for e‑scooters and asked for clearer communications and penalties on flyers and the village website.
Trustee Kumar said she had been raising the issue since May and urged more immediate action, noting underage riders and reports of injuries. Manager Reavis said a flyer was posted the previous day and staff will update it to include fees and fines if not already displayed. "I believe the initial post was the information on what is what," Reavis said; trustees requested additional clarity and educational materials for schools and families.
Separately, trustees moved to refer a resident complaint about traffic around Wildfire Drive and North Yale Avenue to the plan commission and to the police department for review. Trustee Kozar moved (seconded) to send the matter to the appropriate commission and police for investigation; trustees asked that the commission provide a progress report or recommendation after review.
Board members agreed the commissions exist to advise on these issues, and President Patrick said staff will formalize a process for submitting resident concerns to commissions so the board can track responses.
