District staff said a Samaritan's Feet event on Oct. 13 distributed shoes to students (and siblings) through seventh grade; approximately 373 donated pairs were transferred to a district shoe closet and Samaritan's Feet later donated roughly 400 additional pairs. Staff explained shoes are organized by size and gender and are available to scholars via their campus social worker after an assessment of need. Volunteers, local churches and the Pine Bluff School District basketball team participated in the distribution.
Superintendent Dr. Rice also noted partnerships with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) to provide student‑engagement days during extended breaks and a collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club through Kicks for Kids. These efforts were presented as work to reduce barriers to attendance and participation and to support community engagement.
Board members asked procedural questions about allocation frequency and eligibility; staff said social workers will assess need rather than impose a rigid annual limit.
