Hardee County concurs in appointment of Aaron Kistler as county health officer

Kistler, who has served as Hardee County interim health officer for about five months, told the board he plans to focus on chronic‑disease prevention (cardiac, stroke, cancer) and on strengthening partnerships and outreach across the county. Commissioners asked about local health trends and education/outreach programs. Kistler said the health department runs cradle‑to‑grave programs, including WIC and nutrition outreach for children and targeted outreach for older adults.
Public commenter Andy Scott asked whether dementia and Alzheimer’s are increasing locally; Kistler responded that national and state trends show increases and that he would follow up with specific local numbers.
Commissioner Chancy moved to concur with the appointment of Aaron Kistler as administrator of the Hardee County Department of Health; Commissioner Flores seconded. The board voted unanimously to concur.
The concurrence is procedural (a BOCC concurrence vote) and does not invoke an employment contract change in the transcript. Kistler thanked the board following the vote.
