YUBA CITY — The City Council on Tuesday authorized the addition of a full‑time administrative assistant to the public works administration unit and approved staff to negotiate a side letter with the mid‑managers unit to update job classifications.
Interim Human Resources Director Gina Roland told the council the city approved three departmental reorganizations in mid‑July and needed additional administrative support for fleet, facilities, streets and engineering. "Human resources has evaluated the staffing needs of the department and recommends that the city council adopt a resolution adding 1 full time administrative assistant to budget unit 1905," Roland said.
Public Works Director Josh Wolf described three budget adjustments intended to offset the $65,840 cost for the remainder of fiscal year 2025‑26: reducing one Streets Division Maintenance Worker III to a Maintenance Worker II (about $24,000 in savings), vacating an extra‑help fleet position (about $12,000 savings on the public‑works side), and holding a project coordinator position vacant and unfunded for the year to cover the balance. Wolf said staff had done due diligence to ensure the budget would remain balanced.
A member of the public thanked staff for the adjustments and council discussion noted the change was effectively a zero‑net impact for the budget year. Council moved and adopted staff’s recommendation in a unanimous voice vote.
Next steps: staff will proceed with recruitment pending the authorized side letter and the hiring freeze referenced by staff that takes effect Sept. 1.
