Council hears proposal for "My Hometown" neighborhood revitalization program; site visit planned Aug. 16

Council Member Diane Wilson presented the My Hometown Initiative on Aug. 5, describing it as "a community-driven program that focuses on revitalizing neighborhoods and strengthening community bonds." Wilson said the program emphasizes community collaboration, neighborhood beautification, housing improvement and education and described it as "a hand up, not a handout."
Wilson asked whether council members wanted to attend a demonstration day in Ogden on Aug. 16 to observe the program in action and to invite a fuller presentation in September. Council members and volunteers described the program’s structure — two to three days of focused service, local sponsors, and significant in-kind and donated material support from retailers and contractors — and recommended pairing any Roy effort with code-enforcement work and existing city cleanup events to maximize impact.
Council asked staff to coordinate a small delegation to the Aug. 16 demonstration and to invite the program’s regional representative to brief the council with specifics about administrative requirements, insurance and likely costs. No formal commitment to enter the program was made; staff said an application window would not allow Roy to participate before 2026 but agreed to return with more details.
