Council okays issuance of 100 free bike licenses at National Night Out

The City of Aberdeen council approved staff’s request to issue up to 100 bike licenses at National Night Out to promote awareness and help reunite lost or stolen bicycles with their owners.
Jordan explained the city no longer requires bike licenses by ordinance but staff views the certificate as a helpful reunification tool after seeing hundreds of bikes at a recent surplus sale without tags. Police officers and staff will staff a kiosk at the event to issue the free certificates. Councilman Ward moved to approve; Councilwoman Foburg seconded and the council voted unanimously.
Staff will issue the certificates at National Night Out and use the event to show residents where and how to obtain a permanent bike license if they choose.
